After a day of walking and exploring the UBC campus, we decided to treat ourselves to the happy hour menu (3 PM–5 PM) at Wildlight Kitchen + Bar.
With a little help from our server’s recommendations, we went for a couple of their fan favorites—Oyster Motoyaki and Wildlight Chicken Wings—and added our own pick: The Wildlight Burger.
The oysters were tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. The uni mayo added a rich, creamy layer, while the wakame brought a subtle oceanic note. The roasted sesame and bacon crumb added a delightful crunch and nutty, savory depth, enhancing the overall flavor of the dish.
The chicken wings were expertly fried—crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. With 12 wings in the dish, it was a great value. The nuoc cham caramel sauce perfectly balanced the saltiness, delivering a sweet, finger-licking finish that delighted our taste buds.
The brioche bun was soft and paired perfectly with the Angus beef chuck patty. The smoked bacon, Monterey Jack cheese, fried onions, house burger sauce, and smoked onion mayo created a harmonious blend of flavors. The fries were crispy and golden, with a nice, thicker cut that added to their perfection.
Overall, we had a great time at this restaurant. If I had one complaint, it’s that we went a little overboard with the fried food, leaving us reaching for water afterward! The regular menu is on the pricier side, but it’s definitely worth coming back for a special occasion. My favorite dish? The chicken wings, no contest. What would yours be?
